Freshly slaughtered chickens!

Does anyone go to markets such as Superior Poultry in Chinatown? I bought an "old chicken" the other day that was presumably slaughtered that day. I made soup out of it, but I'm sure it's just as good for something like coq au vin. The flavor was much better than regular supermarket chicken. I wanted to know if anyone else agreed or if anyone regularly bought poultry from such places.
