Fresh Killed Turkey

I've had roast turkey on Thanksgiving that was sensational and I've had turkey that was completely tasteless. Even if the roasting is done properly, there seems to be a wide divergence between turkeys with regard to taste.

I've gotten kosher, free range, free range from the Green Market, wild and Balducci's own. Good kosher was the best so far but is there a source that is really superior?
