Had to share some culinary fun from a week in Wellfleet on Cape Cod.
I was lucky enough to catch a 29" Striped Bass (28" is legal these days) the first day on the beach. Got 3.5 pounds of filets off it. Just brushed it with lemon mustard and broiled it, YUM.
The real amazing dish that I made, was towards the end of the week... I got into a run of blue fish and caught two four pounders.
Made my favorite white trash bluefish recipe:
black pepper, mustard, mayo, and bacon. Wrap the whole fish in bacon and then in aluminum foil and throw it on the grill. It was mouthwateringly awesome. The bacon got crispy and browned through the foil!
Fresh caught fish is truly one of my favorite chowhoundish things.
Did a similar meal a few years back and did one better by starting the meal with fresh cherrystones and oysters that I bought from the guys tending their commercial beds in Wellfleet. Those were fresh oysters.
Though I have heard there is a new Mass. law that they can no longer sell directly to the public (does anyone know if this is true?)
