If you are ever traveling along I-78 through Eastern PA (that's the main road between Allentown and Harrisburg) make sure you schedule a trip to the major city of Hamburg, PA - not for the overwhelming cultural or historical sites .... but for a Hecky's Sub Shop Hoagie. Don't blink....it is one of those "local" places that if you don't ask where it is you'll miss it. When you walk in the place, it is refreshing - when you order, it is filling ... get ready to get full!!! The owner's "story" - started 20 some years ago by a Father, Mom, Son and Daughter-in-law, now owned buy the 3rd generation and the little lessons of providing a belly full has been passed down. When you get your hoagie (or other food item - there is a bunch to pick from - it takes 5 minutes just to go over the menu) you should probably ask for a "to go" box right away. However, you probably will want to eat it all right there - they said that everything comes from local companies in Berks County (most of the soups are home-made by Nanna Hecky)... those PA Dutch know good eats!

Check it out - if nothing else the scenery on the drive is worth it.
