Whole Foods Inconsistant?

I live only a couple blocks from the Chelsea Whole Foods. For the first year, it was amazing. I have never experienced food that fresh and help that courteous. But as time went on, I started to notice little slip ups. I had to return two containers of cream that had spoiled long before their expiration. I have also found the current to staff at the meat counter to be friendly but uninformed about various cuts of meat.

Most importantly, the last FEW times I have tried to purchase shellfish, the gentleman has examined the shellfish and then refused to sell it to me because "no one knows how long this has been here." I'm not talking about anything exotic either. Cherrystone clams and stuff like that.

Interestingly, I have encountered none of these problems at the Columbus Circle branch. In fact, it reminds me of how my Whole Foods used to feel. None of these problems are inexcusable but the prices have become outragous. Citarella often looks like a discount store in comparison.

Has anyone else been unimpressed with Whole Foods? I see only raves on this board. Thanks for your input!
