Had a great meal at Fonda del Mar last night (3749 W Fullerton) based on a review either here or on lth. Read that the chefs have had Frontera/Topo and Mia Francesca training...
A nice atmosphere though a bit loud (although that may have been the crescendo of the 10 ladies in their 20s celebrating a birthday nearby).
Meal started with chips that came with green and red sauce. The green salsa was fabulous. We would have licked the bowl. :) Red was smoked chipotle, not very hot, lots of smoke. Tasty.
I ordered the tilapia which came with 2 very lightly fried filets rolled up sitting on their sides (that sounds weird, but it was an interesting presentation) sitting on a bed of Mexican rice and a red tomato based sauce. Great, but not as great as my husbands...he ordered the pork chop which came in this terrific dark mole sauce that had a kick on the end of it. I admit it, I had food envy. It all came with fresh homemade tortillas. We topped it off with a chocolate pecan pie dessert which came with fresh real whipped cream that was whipped and not out of a tub or aerosol can - not exactly traditional, but neither of us are really wild about tres leches cake.
3 ceviches and 2 empanadas on the app menu to try on our next visit...we'll be back. And soon, since they're BYOB until they get their license.
