follow-up, places near downtown Hilton

Someone asked me to follow-up on the suggestions I'd received.

First, thank you, all.

Bottom line: I'd forgotten how huge Chicago was....takes so long to get places when one is there on business....so I didn't get to try as many places as I'd hoped.

Thank you to the person who suggested Canaday le Chocolatier--best place near the hotel; perfect for the hot weather.

Biggest surprise: the food at the Hilton cafe was surprisingly good--one night, had their low cal (400 cal, I think): tenderloin steak, asparagus, and unbelievably wonderful baked potato slices that were almost like potato chips and even more delicious. Everything perfectly prepared and attractively presented....

Went to the Mexican Festival on Cermak for dinner one night--had a couple of good things but it took 1.5 hours to get a cab back to the hotel...

Went to Genarro's on chowhound recommendation. very friendly service, but the ravioli was sticky; the sauce, pretty nondescript...perhaps I got the wrong thing; the place was packed!

Went to the cooking school (AI?) for dinner--food was mostly mediocre except for an exceptional potato croquette--the experience was marred (ruined, actually) by the person who appeared to be the supervisor--he repeatedly criticized one of the servers, right there in front of everyone...

Ate at Bistro 110 a couple of times because it was en route and found it to be pretty good, not great...

Time ran out...but I'll be back in October and closer to better restaurants then.

Thank you to all who sent recommendations for inexpensive places near the Hilton...
