Firehouse Char-Grill review - Irvine

I finally had a chance to drop by and check out this place yesterday, hoping to add another BBQ place to my list. I was a bit disappointed to find that Firehouse Char-Grill was just a regular restaurant that happened to have BBQ on its menu.

Not many BBQ items on the menu, which mostly consisted of sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, chicken, and pastas. They did have items like beef tri-tip and smoked sausage, but none in a combo with their babyback ribs except for chicken. No beef ribs on the menu.

So I opted for the half-rack pork babyback ribs entree, and got garlic fries and garlic mashed potatos as the sides. The half-rack was indeed quite a large portion, which filled me up, but the meat portions on the ribs were a bit thin, and it seemed a bit overcooked, as the meat was a bit tough, not as fall-off-the-bone tender as I normally like. These ribs tasted a bit like the ones I had at my last visit at the Chili's Grill chain.

The sides of garlic fries and garlic mashed potatoes were decent, but nothing outstanding.

While I might not order the ribs again, some of the other items on the menu looked promising enough that I'll come back sometime soon to try them.
