Fiamma review

I ate at the new venture by brguests (of Blue Water Grill, Isabella's, etc. fame) on Friday night and I was thoroughly disappointed. First of all, they gave us a hard time making reservations for 6 people, which upon arrival botthered us, as the place was half empty the entire 2+ hours we were there. Next, the service was stuffy, which does not fit the brguest mold, nor does it fit the SoHo locale. Next, the portions were small, although the food was very good. By 9PM they had run out of chianti and their signature cocktail, the Fiamma. This was particularly disturbing, given the fact that they were not even close to crowded. We pre-ordered dessert for a friend's birthday at 8:15 PM, over 2 hours in advance. By the time we sat there for over 20 minutes after having finished our meal, we just wanted the check, so we asked for the dessert and check right away. The waiter said the dessert would take at least 10 minutes as everything is made to order. Well, what did I order 2 and a half hours ago for? It didn't matter anyway, as the phone lines had problems, which delayed the processing of our credit card anyway.
We thought it was nice that they made a big deal of giving the birthday girl chocolates, until I discovered that they gave those to every table. Anyway, it didn't make up for the rolling of the eyes of the hostess when we requested to sit upstairs, upon arrival. Nor did it make up for the dirty looks we were given by management (we were having fun, but by no means being rowdy or disturbing). In all, Fiamma fell well short of the high expectations I had.
