I've never eaten too much fern bracken because I've read about its possible carcinogenic properties. I've read several reports about fern bracken being carcinogenic and toxic to some animals. I've also read some stuff about it being implicated with some cancers in human beings. Fern Bracken is eaten in Korean and Japanese cultures (and perhaps some others as well), and they've got one of the highest rates of stomach cancer in the world. Of course, there could be other explanations -- genes, high sodium, etc. And it is very difficult to prove causation in these cases. Does anybody have more information about fern bracken? Any botanists out there?
