Hello! My husband and I are heading to Portland this weekend for just 1 night. I've done a bunch of research on the Portland board (Many thanks to everyone for their great posts!), and I'm hoping for some feedback on my draft picks.
We're staying at the Nines and will be taking the train down (i.e., won't have a car). We are big walkers, so are happy to walk a few miles to get wherever. And of course, public transport & cabs are an option.
We are planning the trip as a comfy, relaxing getaway, so I'm trying to plan places that will be tasty, walkable, and cozy.
That all said, what do you think of the following:
Friday evening: Paley's Place, Park Kitchen, or Toro Bravo
We usually eat pretty early (so I'm hoping we could get in to one of these despite their popularity), and they all have great-looking menus (and nice reviews on the board). Any thoughts or suggestions on how to choose among them in terms of ambience, food, or proximity (not necessarily to the hotel but in terms of being in a nice area to walk around pre/post dinner)
Saturday morning: Screen Door, other suggestions?
We'll probably be up early, walking around. I see Screen Door doesn't open until 9am. We'll probably check out the farmer's mkt, so I'm sure we could satisfy ourselves with snacks there as well / instead. Any other thoughts on earlier breakfast spots -- either for a proper eggs & french toast-type place or a spectacular, can't miss pastry?
Saturday afternoon: Food carts
We're thinking of doing lunch as a grazing through the amazing food carts y'all have around the city before getting back on the train.
Beers: Saraveza, Belmont Station
We'd like to go someplace where we can try a bunch of different local brews. Other thoughts or preferences among those two?
Chocolate: Cacao, Pastaworks, and City Market
Yes, I wrote "and". Ok, that may be ambitious. If you had to pick just one (or two), which would it be? Quality, variety, and (to a lesser extent) location feedback would be appreciated.
If I missed anything crucial, let me know. Thanks very much for your thoughts!
