Favorite Sushi on LI (Nagashima, Jericho)

I ate lunch yesterday at Nagashima on Jericho Turpike in Jericho (just west of Home Depot). I was very impressed! In light of the dearth of competition for above-average sushi in Nassau County, this place clearly stood out as superior to other Nassau County sushi locales.

First, the surroundings are immaculate, clean looking and pleasant (the usual blonde wood motif). But it was the variety of new and interesting menu selections that really impressed. I split an appetizer portion of grilled tuna salad which contained thin slices of sushi grade tuna which just had a thin seared exterior with 95% of it being raw. It was served over salad greens with a delicious lite soy vinigarette. It was $12 but large enough to split for two as an appetizer.

I had their special roll, New York, New York, which was a standard mixed fish inside-out roll with seaweed on top and red and green roe and tempura crunch drizzled with spicy mayo. It was welcomingly different and delicious.

To top it all off, I was able to use a 15% coupon clipped from the pennysaver.

While not the cheapest sushi restaurant around, it stands out from the pack and I anxiously await a return visit.

(By the way, two doors down, in the same shopping center, is a new takeout burrito joint called "Peppers" which looks worth a try.)
