With the recent closing of my favorite taqueria, Taqueria Los Tapatios, I realized that I probably should have paid more attention to the warning signs that the restaurant might close. (For one thing, I chalked up the lack of customers inside to the fact that I usually went on in at off-peak hours. I should have compared it to El Jerezano, which was far more busy even at the same odd hours.) Instead, because I heard hounds often raving about it, I assumed it must be busy.
So that got me thinking. What restaurants in LA/OC do you think might be in danger of closing and would you actively lobby people to frequent?
One that stands out in my mind is Alcazar in Encino. This is wonderful Lebanese food and the menu has things I've never seen. I love to make a meal of cold and hot mezza, similar to tapas. It has great variations on common items, like the Hummous Alcazar, which has garlic, chili and fava beans, and very unusual items, like chicken livers sauteed in pomegranate juice, a number of raw beef dishes, brains, etc. Just going through the menu will take a lot of visits.
So what restaurants would you lobby for? I'm not asking people to post only their favorite restaurants, but the ones that don't get the business that they deserve.
