Tried the new Fasika last night with three friends, and it was an interesting experience.
The food was good Ethiopian, but slightly less spicy and flavorful than I would like. I know people often bemoan the fact that Boston Ethiopian isn't anywhere close to DC, and I suppose this is true, but the food was still very enjoyable.
We had the "finely chopped" (read: ground) beef dish -- the most flavorful dish of the lot. Also had collard greens, yellow split peas, and the cabbage/carrot/potato dish. I would order all of them again. They don't have the full selection of Ethiopian wines yet (just opened fully this week), but the honey wine, love it or hate it (I'm the former) was there.
Food bottom line: very respectable and tasty, and a welcome addition to East Somerville.
However, I have to comment on the weird, wonderful and wacky environment. In a former post, someone wondered if they renovated from the bar that used to be there. Not only have they NOT renovated (aside from some wall hangings and paint), the bar is STILL there! So, on one side of the half height partition, you have a very typical Somerville bar, and on the other half is an Ethiopian restaurant. "Extra" Entertainment news was on TV in the bar, and Air Supply and Meatloaf were playing. It was a kind of surreal and entertaining environment!
