I finally made it in to try the Sunday brunch at No. 7 in Fort Greene. All of the food was amazing and (thank god!) they serve a damn fine, strong cup of coffee. A breakfast sandwich was a buttery, flaky biscuit layered with cheese (gruyere I believe), prosciutto and baked (I assume) eggs. Truly fantastic. Latkes were off the hook delish, fat and flavorful and browned so nicely on the outside. The fried chicken knocked my socks off, too. I'm going to dream about it. Regularly. Never mind the house made hot sauce along with it.
Three women were dining nearby and I overhead the manager put together a special order for them so they could all try the same dishes, while each having an individual portion. A nice touch.
The danger is that I'm right in the neighborhood and this is not the kind of meal you want to have very regularly (there are some much healthier options on the menu) but this was the most satisfying comfort food I've had in a good long while. I can't wait to go back with friends so we can sample more of the menu. Plus they had a cider/winter sangria drink special as well as a spiked hot chocolate. You know where you'll find me on the first snowy Sunday...
