A better experience at McCormick and Schmick's on K St.

Previous visits to McCormick and Schmick's downtown at 16th and K (on K St.) brought me desultory, rushed service at best. But, today, I braved the smokiness of the bar area (even though I'm an asthmatic and hate cigarette smoke I didn't want to wait) and had one of the most friendly and professional waitresses I've had in a long time anywhere! I wish I could remember her name so I could recommend her. All I know is she's tall, with long ash-blond hair and works in the bar area. Also, my salmon club sandwich was delicious (juicy, nicely grilled salmon, non-anemic tomatoes, and nicely cooked bacon) and ample and came with crisp french fries. Another bonus at this place at lunchtime is that Mel Krupin, former owner of Mel Krupin's restaurant downtown (now Morton's) and Krupin's deli in Tenleytown, DC (now called Kay's New York Deli but still delicious and serving particularly good kippered herring) is the maitre d' there and he will insult you good-naturedly if you ask. Kind of like a kinder, gentler Don Rickles. Fun! They're having a Valentine's Day special dinner.
