Just spent a week on the North Fork of Long Island. One of our better meals was a lunch at Love Lane Kitchen in Mattituck. ( near several wineries ). Got there at 11:30am or so and no one was there ....... but by Noon it was pretty busy. We sat outside to enjoy the warmish weather. Our group had the Pastrami Sandwich with garlic fries, Swordfish Sandwich with salad, Chicken,Bacon & Guacamole Sandwich ( Focaccia ) and the Chicken Caesar. Also got the sweet potato fries for the table - they were fabulous. All three of the sandwiches were excellent. I like that the garlic fries were cooked with cloves of garlic that perfumed the fries instead of the gobs of raw garlic that I see at some ball parks and pubs ( raw garlic = too harsh).
My chicken, bacon & guacamole sandwich was pressed - and was one of the better focaccia sandwiches I've had. ...... not too much bread - everything was in proportion - allowing the bacon and guacamole to do their part. The chicken caesar was fine but not exciting - we passed up an opportunity to have dinner here so we could try Jamestown Country Kitchen - big mistake on our part. Give this place a try ........ Love Lane is a nice little stop - great cheese shop ( Pain Poilane sold here ) and a nice upscale grocery as well ...... antiques, etc.
