Excellent Huevos Rancheros at El Adobe -- sometimes the good stuff is right under our nose....

The El Adobe Cafe on Arroyo St. just off of Virginia in old Southwest Reno has long been a family favorite for sit-down Mexican when we feel like a quick and inexpensive dinner in the neighborhood. However, I have noticed they are open every day starting at 10 am, and have been wanting to try some of their breakfast choices. I found myself nearby this am, so decided to give it a shot. I must say, those were some of the best Huevos Rancheros I have had in a while! My only possible complaint is that there were a few large chunks of peppers in the ranchero sauce, but they were so few as to be a minor annoyance. The eggs were sunny side up and the yolks properly runny, the tortillas fresh, the sauce tasty (a thin tomatillo-based sauce), and best of all, not a glop of cheese to be found!!! The dish came with four extra corn tortillas, which were barely enough to sop up all those yummy eggyolk-sauce juices, some excellent refried beans, and so-so rice. The service at El Adobe is always friendly, and refills of both coffee and water were frequent. I left with that contented feeling that only a good breakfast can give......
