Excellent Authentic Mexican In A Nice Setting

Sunday we ate lunch at La Casa Azul at 14419 Greenwood Avenue North. This is at the north border of Seattle, just below Shoreline. The food was authentic Mexican and very good. It is a clean, small, classy restaurant that almost seems out of place for the area. I cannot recommend it enough. However, it is only open for breakfast and lunch on the weekend and dinner every day from 4-9 PM. There are lots of picture of and by Frida Kahlo.
We had the Mely’s Chile Relleno, which is a reconstituted Poblano Chile stuffed with ground pork, vegetables and raisins. The cilantro rice was had a greenish tint and was very good. The black beans were quite good, too. The dish was very fresh and well-made.
Our other dish was Lomito de Puerco ala Parilla. This was tender pork medallions smothered in a sauce of guajillo peppers, onion and tomato. It came with grilled cactus (nopales), and a more traditional reddish Mexican rice. The sauce was to die for...
The food is fairly inexpensive. The wine selection needs work; it is almost non-existent. They have a good selection of beers. Ask for the hotter, roasted green salsa and their chipotle cream dressing.
