We went to ENE on a Wed night just after Labor Day. The place was about half full.
It was some of the worst overpriced food Ive ever had. The so-called signature duck tacos looked cute; they used wonton wrappers fried into little taco shells, but the filling had no duck flavor whatsoever. In fact, it tasted like a sloppy joe (perhaps a manwich?). Even the texture seemed more like ground beef than a shredded duck. Similar complaints with the Asian BBQ tofu; nicely fried tofu cubes coated in sauce that tasted like kraft hickory smoke bbq sauce. And the pad thai was just inedible the worst Ive ever had. The shrimp in it were mushy and flavorless and the noodles were gloppy and had a weird sweet lime flavor, like canned limeade. We barely touched it, but the waiter never asked us how we liked it.
And all those dishes were some of the cheapest on the menu, at $18 each. Id glad I didnt go for any of the $30+ dishes. I have pretty low hopes that they were any better.
What a rip-off. I was surprised to hear that the place has been in business for 3 years. However, the décor is handsome and the lighting is great. I guess for some people it is better to look good than to eat well.
