Two new contendors for "personal best" Mexican in Verde Valley.
Enchantment (Tii Gavo, their bar restaurant) has the nicest views and best prices of their three restaurants. Their food has ranged from "pretty good" to "very good" over the decade or so that we've been going. You go, really, for the killer red-rock views and to pretend you're rich for a few hours. Service is always good, the windows are always clean, and in nice weather, the patio is hard to beat. Plus, for hikers, you can use their back gate to shortcut the dull start to the great Boynton Canyon trail.
Our last visit had the best food I can recall. On the advice of our pleasant and efficient waitress, I ordered fish tacos ($15), which were very good -- substantial chunks of mahi-mahi in crisp shells & lots of fixins, including excellent guacamole. Kathleen had a plain quesadilla ($10), which was excellent and perfectly-prepared. We finished up by splitting a chocolate-fruit thingy (like a big piece of first-rate candy, with berries and stuff) -- $7 and first-rate.
A couple days later, we had an early dinner at Tamale Mama's, a new Mexican place on Coffee Pot Rd, 1/2 block uphill from Basha's. Naturally, we had tamales ($3 ea) -- beef for me, green corn for Kathleen. I liked the beef -- above average and nicely-prepared. She liked her green corn, too, but said they were a bit spicy. If you eat in, there's a chips-and-salsa bar, both good. Pico de gallo hot and tasty. So: a full meal for two for $12, in Sedona!
Dining room is plain but pleasant. You order at the counter & they bring out your order. They've applied for a beer & wine license, but just soft drinks for now. Most of the business seems to be takeout.
