Eminence, MO (canoeing mecca)- excellent chow

The lovely little Ozark town of Deliverance, uh, Eminence is 3 hours away from St. Louis and it is not the straightest drive in the world (extremely curvy, but great scenery). We go there every year to canoe and camp. In town there is an AMAZING place to eat. It is called Rube's Roost. It is the basement bar to the restaurant by the name of Winfield's. Winfield's provides the food, but Rube's Roost provides the ambience. The waitress has to order the food and bring it down to you. There is a very private outside patio that would seat up to 20. The drinks are viciously strong. We love their cheeseburgers - so juicy and delicious. The patties are slightly thicker than Carl's but that same grilled goodness. They also have tasty onion rings and breaded mushrooms. The pizza is to die for - thin crust, very tomatoey sauce and TONS of cheese. Everything is homemade here. We had 8 people who were so stuffed we could barely move, and we ate for $32.00, TOTAL. Amazing. I can hardly wait to go back next year. If you're ever in this neck of the woods (literally), don't hesitate. Service here is also great - very friendly and efficient this year, very friendly and slow last year, but it doesn't matter when you are in Eminence.
