Egg Plant Studio City- Horrible Service?

bsquared2 | Sep 4, 2010 10:14 PM

Has anybody been to Egg Plant Japanese Restaurant in Studio City? I read something online about it and decided to give it a try. My wife and I were celebrating our Anniversary and she wanted to go somewhere "low key" that had sushi. From what I read, this seemed to fit the bill.

We had 8pm reservations. I called before and the woman on the phone insisted I needed reservations tonight. When we arrived, there were about 5 or 6 parties having dinner. We ordered a few things right away (Miso Soup, Edamame, Eggplant, some sushi...). After an hour, we were still waiting for our food. Nothing arrived. No soup, Edamame...no refills on drinks....

After an hour, we did get our soup, edamame and eggplant. They were pretty good, but at 1:20 hrs, we were still waiting for our sushi. We found out they lost the order of the table next to us and they were waiting for an hour for nothing.

Eventually we cancelled the order and went home. Very disappointing for a special occasion. Normally I wouldn't write something about a restaurant with bad service, but this seemed to be happening to other parties. It also bummed me out that they didn't seem to care. I spoke to the manager before we left and mentioned the problem. He said he hoped we would be coming back. After that my jaw hit the floor.

Really cute place and what we had was decent. But there are a lot of Japanese restaurants on Ventura Blvd. and this place wasn't packed on a Saturday night.

Was wondering if anybody had a similar experience.

The upside for the day was that we were in Little Saigon and ate a big Vietnamese baked catfish for lunch. That made me happy.
