I've been walking by this place for a whole year without giving it a glance, but my Jewish boyfriend wanted a big Reuben to break his YOm Kippur fast, so we headed down to Polk Street, somewhat skeptically. The dining room filled up fast with Young Jewish men and their girlfriends/wives.
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. The portions were huge (and a little pricey for what it is, but California's a gentile state, so what can you expect). The smoked fish was delicious and we could each only finish half of our sandwiches. Next time I'm going to try the latkes.
I certainly wouldn't come from out of town for ECW, but its a good neighborhood spot with friendly service that will definitely not leave your belly wanting.
