I checked out East Coast BBQ last night. This is a decent sized place for a BBQ place, maybe too big for the biz. There’s not much road frontage here so they will have to market themselves. The smoke smell inside was just like a Q joint should be. They offer ribs, pork, brisket, sausage, chicken, and turkey along with sandwiches and salads.
I had a half rack St. Louis style ribs, mac n cheese, and baked beans with cornbread and 2 slices of brisket on a side request. The smell of hickory came from the smoker as they opened the doors. The ribs were really good with a nice char from the sauce. The meat was really well smoked except a bit more smoke flavor would have been nice. I prefer a deep smoke flavor where most of the general public would not. The crunchy char from the sauce made them really good and not much additional sauce is needed.
Brisket was picture perfect with a beautiful pink smoke ring but a bit on the dry side. I know how tough it is to keep brisket moist the entire time till serving, so I don’t knock them on that. A bit of their single offering darker type sweet sauce on it made it not as bad. Mac n cheese was too dry and needed more cheese sauce than just cheese on the pasta. Baked beans were good and so was the cornbread.
Overall, ribs and brisket were very good and run a close 2nd best I have had. I will say they are better than Tom Jenkins and Ga. Pig in my opinion. On a Tuesday night, there were only 3 people who came in after me to eat in. I saw maybe 2 to go orders being picked up. Sadly, I am not sure if they can make it in this bigger type place without more customer support. I have noticed a lot of restos being empty in the last year. Hopefully, this place will survive.
