Though still reeling from our recent fiasco at India Palace on Franklin, we took a gamble of Kashmir, which recently opened next to Pao Lim on 15-501. We were pleasantly surprised. Everything was solidly satisfactory: cuisine, portion, price, service, decor. Kashmir is owned by the brother-in-law of the folks who own Royal Sitar; I would give Kashmir the slight nod on all counts. I especially like the fact that the place is not pitch black and I could actually see what I was eating.
We had an appetizer assortment (pakora, samosa, some other stuff), palak paneer, lamb dopyaza, and naan. This rather large feast cost $33 without tip, and we could have gotten by with less food. Everything was at the upper end of "good." This was probably the third-best Indian meal we've had in NC, trailing behind meals only at Udupi and The Tower.
In all, a very nice neighborhood eatery. We'll be returning regularly. And there's more good news: the Kashmir folks are looking to buy India Palace.
