downtown cozy rest. rec...Cafe Spiaggia, Bice, Cyrano's...?

Once a year my S.O. and I celebrate my b-day and the x-mas season by going out somewhere in the general downtown area in December after an evening of walking around looking at the windows, doing a little shopping, etc.

I'm looking for rec's for a place with good food, but importantly, good service and a cozy atmosphere. We've been to C. Spiaggia and enjoyed it, though we felt a little cramped. Also been to Coco Pazzo's (middling service), One sixtyblue (enjoyed, but have heard it's gone downhill service-wise since) MK (enjoyed), and some others.

I keep hearing service and loudness issues with Gioco and Opera, among others...any help here?

I want food, comfort, service, and a particularly cozy setting given the season.

312 Chicago? Bice? Printer's Row? Prairie? Maybe even Mon Ami Gabi or North Pond (we don't mind walking...)? Thanks.
