District Kitchen is the kind of comfortable place I can see myself returning to again and again. It provides tremendous attention to what's on the plate without a lot of fussiness. They push the 'small plates' concept, but the plates are not that small. I think the right approach is for a couple to order two dishes at a time and see how it goes.
As with the old Mendocino Grill, you can count on Chef Drew Troutman to have really fine charcuterie. I didn't have any seafood here, but that would be my next stop on the menu judging from his past efforts. Both the boar rillettes and the forest mushroom terrine I tried were terrific.
This place would get far greater attention in a more fashionable location. Right next to the Woodley Park metro, it should be high up the list.
