Dissapointing Birthday Dinner at Chinois/Wicked Long

My husband surprised me last week by taking me to Chinois Restaurant for my Birthday dinner. I was very excited as I've never been. We arrived & were taken immediately to our table & were greeted shortly thereafter by our server with menu's. We ordered a lamb & radiccio app, seafood potstickers, whole fried catfish & lobster chinese style (I seemed to remember reading these last two items were great)and veggie fried rice. We informed the waiter we'd be sharing both appetizers & entrees. Our lamb & radiccio appetizers arrived & they were wonderful. I guess they were kind of a take off on lettuce cups....I'd love to have these again. Just after we finished those our catfish & rice arrived. We told the runner that we were still waiting for another appetizer but since we were sharing, we'd start on the catfish anyway. We were not offered new plates to share our catfish. I thought the catfish was good but the ponzu sauce was a bit too sour for my palate. The rice was very good. Half way through our catfish our potstickers arrived. They were very tastey but again not what I would expect from Wolfgang Puck. Our server came by to apologize the lobster hadn't arrived yet (this was the only time he checked in on us all evening)& assured us the lobster was on the way. He asked if we needed anything & I asked for more sparkling water(most of which I poured on my own all evening). He said it was on the house because of the delay. We had completely finished these dishes & our plates were cleared when finally our lobster arrived.....and THEN more plates & utensils. The lobster was not at all what I had hoped for. It was basically lobster meat in a very heavy lobster stock reduction served over rice. The whole empty lobster body was presented on the plate but there seemed to be less than a whole lobster there. The rice was just steamed white rice but that wasn't even spot was completely overcooked & mushy. How is it they got white rice wrong? I tried not to let all this get to me as it was my b-day & I wasn't about to let the bumbling service & mediocre food get me down. Then we were presented with the desert part about birthdays really....and there was one chocolate dessert on the list so of course, I ordered it and the trio of creme brulee...for my husband. Anyway five minutes later our server returned to inform me they were out of the chocolate cake......I was so dissapointed I wanted to cry. No chocolate on my birthday??? Mind you it was only 9pm. I contemplated jumping in my car & going to Josie Restaurant for dessert but instead I composed myself & shared the creme brulee with my husband. I did not complain that night for reasons I already mentioned but I do plan to write a letter. It seems that a restaurant of this caliber, reputation & price range should be much much better. Any thoughts?
