Disappointing chow, and one unexpected pleasure

Had a couple of bad experiences recently.

Went to Thai Aroma in Ellicott City and ordered Pad Prik King for takeout. Asked for extra heat. What I got was bland and tasteless. I was let down, as that area really needs a good Thai place.

Went to House of Welsh off Rt.1 in Elkridge after seeing a good Sun review (I know, I know) and one rec on this board. Bland and boring. Take this quote from the Sun review: "...choice of two sides from a list of classics: corn kernels, pickled beets, coleslaw, stewed tomatoes, baked potatoes, apple sauce and others. All were as simply and impeccably prepared as could be."

The veggies were out of a freaking can. Bleah.

Saturday night we ended up accidentally in Fells Point looking for something to eat. We wound up at Kali's Mezze. It was surprisingly good. I think the fried oysters were the best I've ever had -- big, plump and totally greaseless.

Major props to Erik, our waiter, who was dealing with a huge jerk who kept insisting that he should be comped for coming in late and only having a limited late night menu available. People like that shouldn't be allowed in restaurants. Or anywhere else, for that matter.
