Husband and I used a gift certificate that we'd been saving for a bit. We've been several times with outcomes ranging from very good to excellent but tonight was just so-so.
A Blue Ginger Gimlet began the evening. Stoli, Lime juice, Ginger syrup...delicious, though the lime overpowered a bit.
My appetizer: braised pork potstickers with cranberrry/horseradish chutney and a mizuna/green apple salad. Thumbs up on the salad and the chutney. The potsickers were bland as could be, though the filling was plentiful and tender.
Husband's appetizer: Foi Gras/Shitake shumai - a standby for us both that did not disappoint.
My entree: Grilled hangar steak w/ broccoli fried rice and a chinese celery slaw. The steak was delecgtable in flavor and texture. The rice may as well have not been on the plate for all it added. I got the point of the slaw -it'scrunchy/spicy was supposed to balance the tender/sweet of the meat, but the vegetables weren't thin enough so crunchy ended up being a bit tough to chew.
Husband's entree: Shrimp Scampi with broad noodles, tomatoes, hearts of palm, and what is described on the menu as "Asian Pesto." It was all fine but unremarkable, and for $30 the expectation should be more than fine.
Were we not dining on a gift certificate we would have been miffed. Instead we were just a bit disappointed that the usually excellent concepts and execution seem to be on hiatus. Hopefully it was just an off night. Has anyone else been recently who can confirm or deny this?
