Hey DFW Hounds,
I'm making good on my promise to return to your fine city, thanks to a business trip. Couple questions on more upscale places (yeah, well-known places, but read the part after "Finally" below):
- I was considering Mansion at Turtle Creek, but dining in the BAR area. I figured it would give me an adequate glimpse of the place without going all out (weekday, after work, and I'd like to feel relaxed.)Opinions on that?
- Dining alone, would I stick out like a turd in the punchbowl in the Tasting Room at Lola? Could I get away with discreetly reading a magazine there? (I couldn't find any photos of the interior of the place on-line). Twiddling my thumbs through a 10- or 14-course tasting is pushing my patience level, although I really, really want to try the place.
- I want to check out Ciudad. What shouldn't I miss? (Do they have a menu on-line anywhere?).
Finally, I'd love to support one of your worthy local, chef-owned restaurants possibly in lieu of the well-known heavy hitters above. What lesser-known and/or smaller gems are serving inventive, excellent dishes at the moment? (ANY cuisine, any location around DFW, mid-level to upscale this trip). Help me support your favorite small place!
I promise a disturbingly long, borderline ridiculous, yet honest and marginally-useful report when I get back, as I'm known to do.
