Can you'all advise me on a place to find good, dense, chewy bagels in Cincinnati?
Now and then I like to toast a bagel and put lots of cream cheese on it. I have tried the bagels from Krogers, but they seem too 'wimpy', like they are not hard enough on the outside, and not dense enough on the inside.
By the way, one of my favorite bagel preparations is to take a nice, toasted, poppy-seed bagel (that was sliced in half of course), put a thick layer of cream cheese on each half, then to each half add a think layer of chopped green onions (scallions), then add another thick layer of chopped black olives!! Woohoo! it's dee-licious!!
This preparation is from a bagel place in Santa Cruz, CA (The Bagelery) and they call it "The Moxie". One way to get the thick layers of chopped green onion and black olive is to use a surface/plate/container that is larger than the bagel halves, and 'pour' the stuff over the bagel halves, letting a lot spill off the sides. Then you can move the bagel halves, recover the over-spill, and do the next topping. Pile it on!!
Your job, should you decide to accept it, is to try the Moxie, and then improve it! Good luck!
P.S. Shoot, now all I can think off is a hot, toasted, raisin and cinnamon bagel dripping with melted butter and a thick layer of cream cheese on it. Nom-nom-nom!! ^L^
