Last night, looking for some place new to order pizza from in West LA, we decided to try Ugo. We had eaten there once while in a big hurry and it was quite nice, but we didn't have the pizza so this was a step into the unknown.
Last night, we ordered a pizza with artichoke hearts and basil. We were told 30 minutes. Less than 20 minutes later the pizza arrived, still piping hot.
It was a thin, crispy more Italian-style crust. Not quite a cracker-y texture, but certainly leaning in the direction. The crackle of the crust was a delight. The pizza had a thin smear of flavorful sauce and cheese - not a heavy topping pizza by any means. While the basil was nice for color, it added little flavor. But the 'chokes were tasty--although also on the thin side.
The pizza was perfect for a light meal. Not the thing when one is in the mood for a grease-coated, cheese heavy American pizza, but this was a very nice surprise for delivery.
We also had a free order of garlic bread (coupon from their delivery menu). We received two flat rounds with a healthy dose of a slightly sour, nutty cheese, a lot of butter and a light coating of garlic. This would make a great side dish for a saucy pasta dish.
Love finding nice neighborhood surprises.
