So, there's this little kind of greasy spoonish place at the corner of Ontario and Dundas. I have never been disappointed by the food there. I mean, it's nothing fancy, and the fries are frozen, but it's pretty tasty souvlaki, good greak omlette, good breakfast special.
But there's one thing that keeps me coming back. The pancakes.
These are, without exaggeration, the best pancakes I've ever had.
Pancakes are obviously a different tastes for different people thing, these are reasonably thin, a bit crispy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside.
It's served with a side of butter, real butter, not whipped butter, not margarine, nothing in a little pre-portioned plastic tub, they scoop the real butter into a container and put it on your plate.
The only thing that would make them better was if they were served with real maple syrup. Although, as my partner and I were eating them today (at 3pm on a Wednesday - they're *that* good) we remarked that it's probably a good thing they don't use real maple syrup, because we'd just eat them constantly if they did.
My brother lives in Guelph, and whenever he's in Toronto he goes out of his way to have pancakes there, no matter what time of day it is, or what part of Toronto he's going to.
So, yeah, pancakes at Ontario Bistro = YUM.
They're open Monday-Saturday, closed on Sundays
