In defense of New Green Bo

There are certain restaurants that this board sometimes makes me feel like a dope for liking: Jackson Diner, Meskerem, and Lombardi's come to mind. Oh, well, I still like them anyway. New Green Bo might be starting to approach that status according to recent negative posts I've seen.

I ate there for lunch today and had one of the more deliciously unhealthy meals Ican have in the city: pork soup dumplings and sesame rice balls in soup. The pork soup dumplings (whose flavor I find more sumptuous than the crab/pork hybrid) are my favorites, better (IMO, of course) than Joe's, Yeah Shanghai, and Shanghai Tide (Flushing), and much better than Grand Sichuan's sad little soup dumplings.

The sesame rice balls in soup are sweet, and maybe I shouldn't have had them for lunch along with the pork dumplings (I usually only eat like this to treat myself). The "soup" is just hot water, and the rice "balls" are basically rice dumplings with a sweet sesame filling with a really nice texture. It's terrific.

Yes, the service can be curt and yes, the crowd tends toward the touristy, but I can't deny that it tastes good to me. I will defend the honor of New Green Bo.

For those who don't know, it's on Bayard between Mott and Elizabeth in Chinatown.
