Finally went to Dedo on last Friday with expectation after lots of great reviews. To be fair, Gargoyle's and Orleana are so fare my faviorite for its value to me in the area (I have been to Excelsior too).
Arrived at Dedo around 6:30 on Friday, went into dining room. My first impression on their decor was it looks too standard. I felt like I am in the Pottery barn's catalogue... curtains, lightings, linens.. are too familiar with what I have seen from those catalogues.
Were seated and they had November menu. Ordered sweet popate gnocchi (which I had built so much expectation) and my husband orderd beef duo from the main entree. We decieded to order more after we taste those dishes first. The waiter brought us two pieces of thin baguette and a slice of cold butter on while plate. That was pretty disappointing. It gives me the impression that they don't care.. the bread wasn't even in a basket with napkins or something. Apparently, the butter was too cold to spread on the standard baguette. I was embarrassed to my husband in that i highly recommended this place.
Gnocchi and beef dish arrived. pretty disappointing. The food was all right, but nothing standed out.. neither the taste, nor the presentation. Small bites of gnocchi were just thrown on the white plate without any garnish and the beef dish was nothing special.
It was not that busy for friday night. And given what I had there, no surpirse.
We pretty much agreed on not trying other dishes there any more that point, and left with full of disappointment thinking we should have gone to Gargoyle's or Orleana and getting so much more value for the same price.
I don't know if it was there new November menu or not, but my general impression was they don't have detailed attention on food, decor, and service.
