Driving north to Vermont (again) this weekend (on Friday). Since I had my S.O. I wanted to stop for a bite on the way north instead of pushing on stubbornly without food, as I usually do. Plus people had been recommending White Hut again, I looked it up on the web for location and hours. No hours posted on the website.
We pulled in at 6:35 PM on a Friday night. It smelled great. The hours on the door said that they close at 6:30 Sun-Thurs and at 8:30 on Fri and Sat. We were greeted with. "Sorry, we're closed." The grill was being scrubbed, customers clearly finishing what they had at the counter. We looked at the door, looked at the guy. He mumbled something about not changing the sign, while he continued to clean up.
Disappointed we drove on and got some decent takeout burritos in Northampton (across the street from the Tibetan place)
So I'm looking for someone local to explain the rules to me about White Hut. I know it's cash only. Have they cut their hours recently? Do they adjust their hours on whims? Do they stop taking orders 15 minutes before closing? I'm not trying to be a jerk; I'm trying to understand the rules to see if I can get fast sustenance on a drive I do regularly.
I don't typically stop anywhere because
a) I don't want to make the trip much longer than the 4 1/2 hours it already does, so no sit down fare or food that requires utensils in the car
b) I don't leave the mountain early because I'm required to stay there until closing, and I don't leave work early on Friday because it's work.
c) I won't stop for any chainland fast food.
