DC/VA Hound Seeks Life-Altering Chow in NYC for One Night

John Galt | Jul 9, 2004 01:26 PM

I can hardly imagine how tired NYC hounds are of requests like mine. My quest is simple. Chow greatness for one night. One night only.

In anticipation of my upcoming trip to NYC with a group of friends, I have scoured the NYC boards for hours, trying to settle on a destination that is bound to make my taste buds celebrate. Yet, every time I seem to find a chorus of approval for a restaurant, I inevitably also discover strident dissent. Of course, this is not surprising. One man's Air Bud is another man's Citizen Kane.

Because of the infrequency of my visits to the World's best food city, however, I am paralyzed by indecision -- terrified that I won't reach chow excellence.

Diehard hounds, please come out of the woodwork:

Where MUST we eat for a meal to remember?

Note: the only places off-limits for this trip are the over-the-top expense account places (JG, Ducasse, Daniel, Per Se etc.)

The current candidates are the following, but this list is just for starters:

wd-50
Sumile
Sushi of Gari
Geisha
Blue Hill
Jack's Luxury Oyster Bar

And, we're not opposed to dives.

Thanks in advance.

In appreciation of your advice, in case any of you are down that way, I have linked to my recent post about a Chowhound's dream in Charlottesville, Virginia.
