My husband and I will be traveling to SF and the wine country in early August. (I know it's not the best time of year, but it's our anniversary.) We'd like to be able to visit wineries and restaurants without too much driving (particularly important in the evenings after dinner), so I'm interested in a place with good wineries - and perhaps even more important - good restaurants nearby.
I've heard great things about Healdsburg and Sonoma, and less favorable things about Napa and Yountville, in terms of how charming, picturesque and fun the towns are. Unfortunately, most of the restaurant chatter I've seen has been about restaurants at various towns in Napa county.
So my questions are these:
1) Will we be missing out on the best chow if we stay in Sonoma or Healdsburg?
2) Chow-wise, which town would you pick in Sonoma? In Napa?
