Overall, the food at XYZ was just fine. No complaints about anything, all was cooked properly, it tasted fine, and hard to criticize, but it just didn't "wow" me. However, portions were very small so we had a little snack later that night. The atmosphere was too hip for me, both in the bar and at the restaurant (and I guess that would go for the hotel, too, but I haven't seen the rooms here). I'm glad I went, but there are too many great places that are much more my style. It would be a good place to take young, hip business guests who want that kind of a scene but definitely not a "homey" place where I would go to regularly.

I. First course

A. tuna tartare with cucumber relish and grapefruit supremes—hard to really mess up tuna tartare unless you use bad fish, and the fish was first rate. Cucumber relish was light and refreshing but I didn't like the grapefruit with it.

B. salad of bitter greens with pears and walnuts – just fine, again hard to mess up if you use good ingredients.

II. Second course

A. Short Ribs – wonderful flavor, meat was falling off the bones. Sides were huge butter beans which were wonderful and tasty chard. Tiny portion of meat.

B. Risotto with shrimp and scallops and goat cheese – couldn't taste any goat cheese, so it was mild and creamy like crescenza. The risotto was a little thicker than I like seafood risotto to be but it was very good, and a bit rich.

Dessert

Yogurt panna cotta – very thick texture and not as tangy as I would have expected, but it was a nice 5-bite dessert.

Chocolate banana bread pudding – very small serving about 1/2" square and 2" tall, but it was yummy.
