The New: Ole Mole
I just spent this beautiful day up in gorgeous Darien. I met a friend for lunch at the new Mexican place on Post Road called Ole Mole. They spot is perfect. There is a huge parking lot with many available spots. There are a few outdoor tables with umbrellas and more seating inside. The decor is very fun and colorful without being over the top.
The menu was pretty varied, but as it was lunch I went with something light. I had the veggie soft tacos. They contained sauteed spinach, grilled onions, lettuce, chopped tomatoes, and cojito (sp?) cheese. This dish was priced under $6! which is crazy cheap for the area and more importantly...delicious. There was a chunky fresh salsa on the side which was slightly different from the salsa that was served with the chips. Both salsas were super fresh and yummy, I could have dealt with a lil more spice (heat) though. My friend's dish came with some sort of smoky chipotle sauce which I used to heat things up a little. There was also a nice list of Mexican beer and I did see three varieties of Patron at the bar. That's all I need :) I will definately go back the next time I am in the area to try more dishes.
The upcoming: Ten Twenty Post
Being right next door, I popped my head into the space that will soon be Ten Twenty Post Oyster Bar and Bistro. I kinda know the partners from Ruby's (one of my fave spots in Rye), so one of them gave me a tour and even showed me the mocked-up menu.
This place is beyond beautiful. There are I think they are called coffered ceilings, that are framed by the prettiest floral-ish moldings. While I was there one of the workmen was putting an antiquey looking glaze over it. The floors were black and white bistro tiles and the walls were half dark stained wood with the upper parts either painted or to-be-wallpapered depending on what part of the restaurant you are in.
I'm trying not to get too excited about the menu, because they said it wasn't set yet, but it looks soooo good!
There are many raw bar/oyster bar type offerings plus several other things for pretty much anyone I would be dining with. Anything from an omlette to steak frites to fab sounding salads to bouillabaise (sp?). I will be going there as soon as it opens to try it out and report back. The opening date is going to be somewhere in the begining of October.
