Da Andrea in W. Village--report

Tonight we ordered food from Da Andrea on Hudson in the W. Village. It arrived in about 25 minutes. We had: grilled calamari with salad greens, mussles in wine, garlic and tomato sauce w/ rosemary, and wild striped bass with potatoes and some veggies. Also they included about 8 pieces of 4 different kinds of bread. Cost: $30 + tip.

Well, this was an amazing meal. The calamari were nicely grilled and included both "body" and "tentacle" parts. 4 bods, 6 parts. The sauce was a lemon/olive oil/garlic. The mussles had a nice garlic piquant flavor, and there were tons of them. The sauce could be nicely sopped with all that good bread.

The striped bass, well, I only sampled a bit, and it is outstanding- too full for more. It will be finished tomorrow.

Bottom line: if you are in the delivery area of Da Andrea, this is one of your best choices for a restaurant meal at home (provide your own wine, fresh fruit and you've made a meal for $40!). The restaurant, open every day for dinner, looks nice inside if you are in the mood for that.
