I finally visited this much heralded BBQ spot this past weekend. Charming and fun! The old school buses, the authentic coolness of Curtis himself tending the meat! My expectations were pretty high..
THEN, I ate the ribs & chicken. Bleech! What is everybody talking about?? Both meats were tasteless. NO smoke flavor infused into the meats. OK sauce slathered on but the meat was the most boring I have ever sunk my teeth into. Fatty too. Plus, $12 for 1/4 rack with no sides? The only satisfying thing was his homemade birch beer. Curtis was too nice to complain to so I just smiled when leaving.
I don't know. Maybe New Yorkers excitedly driving up I-91 love the idea of a rural "authentic" southern BBQ in the wilds of gentrified Vermont, but I don't get it. The food stinks.
What say you Chowhounds??
