After seeing an episode with Anthony Bourdain in Miami and watching him "nurse" a Cuban coffee(no milk) I had to try it.
I live near Silver Lake and some one said Cafe Tropical has Cuban coffee. I go there and ask for a Cuban coffee large (w/o the milk...not a cafe con leche) and get a huge cup of strong black coffee...I wasn't watching but maybe it was 4 shots of espresso ($4.50). Two days later there's another barista waiting on me and I ask for a small Cuban coffee(no milk) and he mumbles something that sounded like "double espresso" and that's what it seems like I got again($2.50). Nothing like the super strong stuff Tony Bourdain was ranting about.
My question is was I at the right place for a Cuban coffee or is it just a double espresso?
NOTE: All their pastries look fantastic. I had a popover the first time which was excellent served with some kind of purple looking stuff that wasn't jelly and the next time the French Napoleon($2.25). One of the best I've had in LA despite the fact that it wasn't filled with French custard, but some kind of cream fillings.
