Nice addition to Marine Avenue on Balboa Island: Crocker's. It's small, with about six seats inside and a table straddling the front door.
The Big & Juicy Kosher Dog is more meat than it originally seems, but it's the smallest dog. I don't know what seasoning they use in the meat, but this one really tastes like a classic hot dog. They'll dress it however you want it, and I got mine with mustard and cold saurkraut. It's $6, and a nice lunch.
The Crocker's Chicago dog has a natural casing, which I prefer because of the nice snap when you bite it. And it makes the meat a little tastier imho. It comes with fluorescent green relish, tomatoes, onions, a pickle spear and small jalapeno peppers. It was very tasty and a lot of food, but my only complaint is that the liquid tomato juice caused the bun to fall apart.
My two favorites on Marine are now Crocker's, as well as Picante Martin's down on the other end of the street. Oh, and Tutti Fruiti has some very delicious frozen yogurt.
Of course the piece d resistance is the hot fudge sundae at Sugar n Spice.
