Well, guys. I musta pulled another blonde moment on this one...y'all got me curious and we made the trip up to RR to try the Cooper's (hoping it would come close to the one in Llano). This place was supposed to be "new" and run by the same folks. At least that's how i understood it.
The Cooper's we went to was just off Main on Mays (?). Little white building on the corner with a dirt parking lot. One pit that didn't look like it was running at the time. Not a car in the lot and that worried me.
Walked in and up to the counter where the owner greeeted us with a very large grin and took our order - brisket, sausage and pork ribs, slaw, potato salad and beans. Brisket was fair to midland, moist and not to greasy. Hubbie thought the sausage was Elgin, again fair to midland. Ribs had obviously been slow smoked for many hours and while good where the "wrong side of the ribs" and were just loaded with fat. The meat that was on the bone was very tasty though.
While the potato salad was unremarkable, the slaw was very interesting in that it was a strange combination of western and german slaw. It was mayo with the vinig. undertone. Like i said, interesting.
Overall a good experience but not a Cooper's of Llano omg and this place had been in business for a while it seemed. Did I go to the wrong Coopers?
