Like most of you, I just love the fact that this Chowhound community allows us to find kindred souls with whom to share our passion of food. We've met at brunch, then we've been to Turkey and we're soon off to Mexico. However, in addition to our monthly chowhound meets, I am volunteering to lead what I call the Wine Lover's Chow Dinner Series.
What is it, you will say? Well, one of my other passions (other than observing the dingo in its natural habitat... just kidding) is wine and spirits. Once in a while, I love to go to an outstanding restaurant where the quality of the cuisine will only be matched the quality and depth of its wine cellar and expertise with fine spirits. These restaurants maybe a bit more on the pricey side, but are totally worth a chowhound visit, especially for those chowhounds who appreciate great wine and good spirits.Some of these establishments employ certified sommeliers, while others have highly competent and knowledgeable waitstaff who just lack the sommelier diploma.
So, with that in mind, I intend to organize 2 to 4 such dinners a year and I intend to hold the first one around the end of October. During these special dinners, a group of 10 to 12 people will have the opportunity not only to try new dishes, in true chowhound tradition, but also to discover new wines and vintages and learn a bit more about wine and spirits in general, all the while having fun in great company. It's not a formal wine tasting, but just an outstanding dinner where the wine and spirits are totally in harmony with the food.
I will keep you all posted and will announce the first of these dinners around mid to late september.
