The Coles in Aptos reopened last week after being closed for awhile for remodeling. Hoping that the food had been "remodeled" too, I decided to give them another chance.
I ordered the Tri-Tip plate, my favorite choice at the Santa Cruz Coles. It comes with a side of your choice and garlic bread. The bread and my side, potato salad, were dramatically better than the last time I was there. I liked the bread enough to order another piece. The potato salad at the SC Coles still rules though. The meat was about the same as before. Enjoyable, but not as tasty as at SC Coles.
The menu is still basically the same as before, expcept for the addition of a small salad bar. The interior has a fresh coat of paint and the tables have been rearranged. It feels more crowded now. The restroom is no longer a filthy mess.
It does seem that there's been an attempt to improve the food, so The Aptos Coles might be worth a visit if you're in the area. I would still rank the Santa Cruz Coles as the better of the two.
