Best Coffee Shop?

I'm interested in the type of restaurant which I call
"Coffee Shops" or "Greek Coffee Shops" -- they're
similar to diners, but not exactly the same; I'm not
sure though what the difference is. In my experience
the best Coffee Shops are always in Manhattan; the
outer boroughs just don't seem to be capabale of
producing a real Coffee Shop (though I could easily be
wrong here).

My first favorite CS was Tom's, on Broadway and 113th
(love their fried chicken basket!); nowadays I think my
favorite is the Famous Cozy Soup & Burger, on Broadway
and Astor Pl. Just today I stopped in at the Famous
Cozy for a bowl of split-pea soup; I sat at the far end
of the counter, right next to the kitchen, and it was
just what I needed on such a cold day. There is also a
really good one on 9th Ave. in the high 50's, but I've
forgotten exactly where.

Does anyone else have thoughts on Coffee Shops? What
are your favorites?

Jeremy
